Looking after your jewelry

With proper jewelry care, your accessories will retain their beauty for years to come. Many factors can influence the condition of jewelry, so you should make sure that your jewelry is properly cared for, repaired and stored. Take care to avoid extreme humidity or heat.

Please follow these steps to ensure your fine jewelry lasts a lifetime.

Jewelry Care Instructions

Jewelry that is regularly used generally needs less care.
    • Always protect your jewelry from knocks, scratches, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold.
    • We recommend removing jewelry when you shower or bathe; and particularly when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water.
    • Avoid spraying perfume or applying creams directly onto your jewelry.
    • Keep away from extreme temperatures, and avoid wearing your jewelry when using bleach.

storing

To protect your jewelry, pieces should be individually placed in a pouch or within a soft lined box. Ideally store your jewelry in a dark, cool and dry place, and try to keep pieces apart.

cleaning

All KATHRYN New York pieces are made in sterling silver, which is a precious metal and may require cleaning from time to time. However, we typically plate all of our pieces in rhodium, which greatly protects each piece. In addition, yellow and rose gold-plated pieces have added protection through the plating process.

METAL

Using a soft, lint-free cloth is an effective way to keep your designer jewelry looking shiny and lustrous. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal, as these can cause light scratching.

GEMSTONES

Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. We advise cleaning your precious stones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing. Very porous stones, such as turquoise and emeralds should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones, as these can cause scratching.

Lifetime Repair & Five Year Warranty

Every piece of KATHRYN New York jewelry is covered by a five year warranty on receipt of a valid proof of purchase. This warranty applies only in situations of normal wear and tear. In the rare event that a piece appears damaged due to extreme circumstances, such as mistreatment, this warranty may not apply.
Within five years, if your jewelry needs repair, please contact us at info@kathrynnewyork.com to assist you.
This warranty is in addition to other rights you may have in relation to the piece.  After five years, we can assist you in repairing your KATHRYN New York jewelry for a small fee.
